If they ask me, I could write a book
Songwriters: Richard Rodgers / Lorenz Hart
About the way you walk and whisper and look
I could write a preface on how we met
So the world would never forget
Apparently I’m a Pants writer.
As in ‘by the seat of my pants’.
I don’t like outlining things in advance.
I’m sure you’ve noticed by now.
It’s even that way with plays.
Usually starts with a snippet of dialogue, a character talking in my head.
Or a bare bones concept.
It’s how I wrote A Song for Rachel.
The Intern made a crack about a comment Mary made about having ‘a healthy glow’.
And Bob’s your uncle.
I think this style serves me well enough.
